A major side effect of terrorism is instilling fear in a society. When this fear interferes with everyday activities essentially, the terrorist have won. We need to make sure that we don’t let our fear get the best of us. Post 9/11, heros portrayed on television to help quell the fear. A fictional hero portraying a hero in a modern TV show is Jack from Lost. For those of you who haven’t seen the show it’s about a group of people who crashed their plane on an island and were stranded. However, on the island there was a society of people called “the others” who terrorised them. Jack, a main character of the show, was put into a leadership role and encouraged everyone not to be scared, thought of tactics to be safe, and also thought of strategies to counter-attack the problem. Jack’s leadership abilities not only helped keep the group safe but at times convinced the group that they were actually safe and didnt allow the “terrorist” acts of “the others” rule their life.
